Suwabe is due for a surgical procedure advised by her physician.

Voice actor Junichi Suwabe (Keigo Atobe in The Prince of Tennis, Ryomen Sukuna in JUJUTSU KAISEN) will take a medical leave of absence beginning January 1, 2024, according to a December 8 announcement by voice actor agency Haikyo. He will take a break of two or three weeks, and he will make an announcement about when he will return later.

Consequently, on January 6 and 7, 2024 in Osaka, he will not be present in the "Premier Music Reading Theatre VOICARION XVII - Spoon's Shield" production, where he was assigned to the role of Maurice de Talleyrand. His role will be filled by fellow voice actor Koichi Yamadera, who played Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop.

On his blog, Suwabe provided a little more explanation of the circumstances. Suwabe claims he doesn't have any issues at work or with going about his regular life (eating, drinking, exercising, etc.). Nevertheless, his physician advised that he get the operation done as soon as possible because it doesn't require ongoing care. After nearly three decades as a voice actor, Suwabe decided to take a break after considerable consideration and determined that he should rule out any potential concerns. Additionally, he will work in 2023 in accordance with his schedule.

"I will do my best to recover from the surgery so I can return to work as soon as possible!" At the conclusion of the post, Suwabe wrote.
